Thaevara Vaiputthalangal

These temples are referred by the thevara moovar ( the 3 saints who sang thevaram) in songs to the regular thevara thalangal ( thevara temples).

Before we proceed to give a list of Vaipu temples , lets take a look at these statistics

Total number of Vaipu thalangal - 249 ( They include some regular temples too )
So Total number of Thevara thalangal = 523

Vaipu thalangal need not only refer to temples which were unvisited by the 3 saints but also the ones visited by one of them and unvisited by the other 2 and so on.
There are about 249 vaipu thalangal in total. Many of them could not be identified , many are in bad shape and some famous ones too.We dont have the details/localities of many temples and so listing them would be of no use.Lets take a look at the known ones

1.Thirupperundurai alias Aavudaiyar Koil.
This temple is the central focus of thiruvaasagam sung by manikkavasagar.Lies near Aranthangi in pudukkottai district , old tamizh age poetries praise the temple more than any.
Swamy - Gurumoorthy alias Sivaloganaathar.
Ambal - Sivayogambigai
Thala vruksham - Kurunda maram.
Here sivaperuman and ambal are in a special state called Arupam.The famous story of Foxes becoming Horses happened here. There are 50 Shakthi peetams in the world.49 are kaariya peetams.This one alone is the Kaarana peetam.

2.Sankara Naarayanar koil
This temple is in Thirunelveli district where lord shiva and vishnu appeared in one idol to show the people that they are one and the same.

3.Thanjai thaLi kulam
Thali - koil , kulam is pond. From the name one can identify that this is the Shiva temple in the Thanjavur Big Temple pond.God name is Thanjai ThaLi kulathar.

4.Pallavaneeswaram
The temple in Poombuhar.This is also a thevara thalam.

5.Dharmapuri
Present day Dharmapuri is known to everyone in Tamil nadu.Old name was Thagattur. This place was ruled by the king Adiyaman.

6.Thittai
Thittai is a thevara padal petra thalam.Description can be found in "Featured Temples page".

7.Thindivanam
Thindivanam is in Chennai-Trichy main line and National highway 45.Called as Thindeechcharam in old songs.

8.Naalur
Naalur lies in Kumbakonam-Thiruvaarur main road near kudavaasal.Naalur Mayaanam is a Thevara Padal petra thalam.

9.Adiyaman kottai
This place is near Dharmapuri in Dharmapuri district.

10.Vazhuvur
Vazhuvur is one among the "Ashtaveetataanam Temples".
Lies near Mayiladuthurai.This is where Lord Shiva killed Gajamukaasuran.

11.Thingalur
Thingalur is now becoming famous as this is a "Navagraha Sthalam" famous for Chandran.Lies 7 kms to the east of Thiruvaiyaru.This temple was sung in Thevaram of Thiruppazhanam by Appar. AppudiyadigaL , one of the 63 nayanmars served here.

12.Agneeswaram
Near kuttalam rly station near mayuram. References for kuttalam can be seen in Temple lists.

13.Aadakechuram
People say that this is the temple "Nagabilam" inside Thiruvarur temple.

14.AanPatti
Near Coimbatore.

15.Aazhiyur
Lies between Sikkal and Keevalur.

16.Ezhumur
Ezhumur is the present day Egmore in Chennai.

17.Karanthai
Karanthai is Karunthattangudi , a part of Thanjavur.

18.Kodi
Kodi is different from Kuzhagar koil which is a Thevara padal petra thalam. This temple has been washed away by tides and so the idols are kept in Kuzhagar koil.

19.Lalgudi
Lalgudi is a town near Trichy.
