mangalaambigaa sametha baaskareswarar temple , paruthiyappar kovil, known in thevaram as parithi niyamam is a temple sung in sacred thevaram hymns about 15km south of thanjavur on thanjavur – pattukkottai road.
a small village, paruthiyappar koil is surrounded by greenery is where suryan worshipped shiva to get rid of his doshas. since sun represents pithrus ( deceased elderly in a family ) , this place is ideal for performing pithru dosha parikarams.
the temple is said to have been constructed by sibi chakravarthy , an ancestor of rama.
if a person has sun afflicted in his horoscope or is with raagu or kethu or seen by such malefic planets, pariharam is performed in this sthalam. it is also the best place for people born on krithika , uthiram and uthraada nakshathras to perform parikarams.

it is said that sun was punished by veerabadra sent by shiva since he participated in the daksha yagna. to atone for his sin , he created a theertham called surya theertham and worshipped shiva. it is one of the 16 temples where sun worshipped shiva along with thirumangalakudi , suryanar koil etc.
markandeya maharishi was blessed on a margari thiruvadhirai and is said to be worshipping shiva every day in a sookshma ( invisible ) form.
sun god worships the lord directly on tamir month panguni , dates 18 and 19. it is also one of the pancha baskara kshetrams , meaning places where sun worshipped himself.
